ALPA Inc. wins nearly ₱2 million in Global Climate Award to turn textile waste into climate solutions

23 October 2026, Makati City: Race to Net Zero Philippines (RtNZ) congratulates Alangalang Lingganay Performing Arts Inc. (ALPA Inc.) on being named among the 50 global winners of the 2026 Youth4Climate Call for Solutions, securing nearly ₱2 million in project funding through the initiative co-led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Italy.
Selected from more than 2,200 eligible applications worldwide, ALPA’s winning proposal, “Waste to Wear, Waste to Build,” aims to transform discarded textile waste into sustainable construction materials, including tiles and wall cladding.
The project, to be implemented in Alangalang, Leyte, will promote circular economy innovation, green skills development, and new livelihood opportunities for local communities.
Developed in collaboration with BAYO Foundation and Race to Net Zero Philippines, the initiative demonstrates how partnerships between the creative sector, private sector, and climate advocates can help bring locally developed solutions to the international stage.

“We have always believed that climate solutions can emerge from communities and sectors that are often overlooked in conventional climate discussions. ALPA’s achievement demonstrates the potential of young people and creative organisations to translate local knowledge into practical climate solutions,” said Dawn Cabigon, Campaign Lead, Race to Net Zero Philippines.
“What makes this initiative particularly meaningful is its connection between cultural preservation and environmental responsibility. By bringing together textile circularity, youth innovation, and community development, we see an opportunity to demonstrate how climate action can create tangible benefits for communities in the Philippines.”
For Race to Net Zero Philippines, the recognition reinforces the importance of supporting locally led innovations and building partnerships that can help translate climate commitments into implementation.

As ALPA celebrates its 15th anniversary, RtNZ PH looks forward to supporting the organisation and its partners as they move from international recognition to local implementation.
