Race to Net Zero Calls for Action at Digital Climate Futures

  • People & Communities

Makati City, Philippines — Race to Net Zero Philippines Campaign Lead Ms. Dawn Cabigon joined leaders from government, academia, and the digital sector during the LNU DICT Podcast: Digital Climate Futures to discuss the critical intersection of climate action, governance, technology, and community empowerment.

The discussion emphasized the urgent need for the Philippines to move beyond awareness and translate climate commitments into concrete, measurable action. As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, the Philippines faces increasing risks from extreme weather events, making climate resilience a national priority.

During the session, Ms. Cabigon emphasized that climate action must be rooted in local realities and strengthened through collaboration across sectors.

The conversation highlighted the experiences of communities such as those in Leyte, where climate-related challenges demonstrate the importance of effective governance, community engagement, and resilience-building initiatives.

Representing Race to Net Zero Philippines—the official Philippine platform of the UN-backed Race to Zero campaign—Ms. Cabigon shared the importance of mobilizing organizations from across sectors to advance transparent, accountable, and science-based climate action. She emphasized that achieving climate goals requires collective efforts that connect national ambitions with local implementation.

The dialogue also explored how digital technologies can serve as powerful enablers of climate resilience. Panelists discussed the role of digital infrastructure, connectivity, climate data, early warning systems, and digital literacy in helping communities better anticipate, respond to, and recover from climate-related risks.

Looking ahead, the discussion focused on the need to transform commitments into measurable outcomes through stronger partnerships among government, academia, civil society, youth, and the private sector. Speakers highlighted that climate resilience cannot be achieved by any single sector alone and requires coordinated action across society.

Race to Net Zero Philippines remains committed to supporting climate leadership and fostering collaboration among stakeholders as the country works toward a more resilient, inclusive, and net-zero future.
